Two standout seniors from Islands High School made a big splash in their baseball careers on Thursday, January 30, 2005, officially signing to play at the next level. Dylan Gordon, an all-region catcher, is headed to Gordon State College in Barnesville, Georgia. His teammate and fellow senior, Brendan Lanigan, will take the mound for Eastern Florida State College in Cocoa, Florida.

Gordon has been a key piece of the Sharks' success, emerging as one of the Coastal Empire's top catchers. Last season, he anchored the defense with 25 assists and helped lead the Islands to the Class 4A playoffs. He hit .343 with 36 hits at the plate, earning a spot on the Region 3-4A First Team.

Lanigan made his mark as a dominant relief pitcher, posting an impressive 0.857 ERA while striking out 17 batters in just 16 innings. His talent extended beyond the high school season as he competed with the nationally recognized Wow Factor Nation 17U TEAM. His curveball was rated as having one of the best spin rates by TrackMan technology, said Islands head baseball coach Brandon Collins. Collins also praised both players for their work ethic and leadership.

"It's been an honor to coach these two the past three years! I'm excited to get one more year with them on the diamond and to go watch them in their college careers," Collins said.

While National Signing Day is officially set for February 5th, Islands High School wasted no time celebrating these two future college players. With one final high school season ahead, Gordon and Lanigan will look to lead the Sharks to even greater success before taking their talents to the collegiate level.
