Nixon wins junior event at Henderson Golf Club

Savannah's Finn Nixon, a junior at Benedictine Military School, edged BC classmate and teammate Patrick Mahoney by four strokes to win the Boys 14-18 age group at a 36-hole Savannah Junior Golf Association presented by First Tee - Savananh event played June 30 and July 1 at Henderson Golf Club. 

Both Mahoney and Nixon carded scores of 7-over par 79 in the first round, but Nixon was able to minimize mistakes around the tricky course to post a score of 5-over 77 in the second round to edge Mahoney. 

Mahoney gained a two-stroke lead over Nixon through five holes following, but Nixon carded pars on the next five holes to overtake Mahoney and ease into a three-stroke lead with nine holes to play. Mahoney got within two strokes after the 16th hole but couldn't get any closer. 

Nixon also won the 36-hole Savannah Junior Golf Association event played May 26-27 at Richmond Hill Golf Club. The next Savannah Junior Golf Association event will by played July 27-28 at Crosswinds Golf Club and registration is available at Savannah Junior Golf Association Registration.

In the Boys 8-13 age group, Richmond Hill's Tripp West claimed a convincing victory with scores of 74-78 to finish 10-over par. And in the Girls 8-13 age group, Emma Parker was victorious following rounds of 91-90.
