The Islands High School standout multisport athlete Veroinca Sierzant announced on social media that she has committed to play for the Syracuse Volleyball program for the fall season of 2023.
Sierzant , a 6-foot, 3-inch outside hitter, has just begun her senior season for the Sharks. Last year, Sierzant, as a junior, won the 30th Hollis Stacy Award, which honors Savannah's most versatile prep female athlete. She was the first sophomore to win the award in 2021 and the fifth athlete to win the back-to-back trophy. Veronica also was named the SMN Best of Preps 2022 and the Girls Athlete of the Year.
Sierzant 's volleyball, athletic recognition, and desire to play college sports are why she is going to the next level. Veronica was the GHSA 4A - Region 3 volleyball player of the Year, named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Phenom List for 2021, and the Savannah Morning News Best of Preps 2021 All-Greater Savannah Volleyball and overall female Player of the Year. As a junior, she had 403 kills, 44 aces, 175 digs, 255 serves received, and 18 blocks.
Sierzant's position at the next level will be a setter. Besides Syracuse University, Loyola University Maryland, Illinois, Butler, and UNC Greensboro have all offered to have her play for them. Asked why Syracuse, Seirzant said, "When I was little, I used to watch Syracuse basketball games, and I loved the mascot. I thought it would be cool to be an orange one day, so it's been a dream since I started playing sports."
Veronica is the daughter of David and Brenda Sierzant and has two siblings: sister Elizabeth, an exceptional multisport athlete at Islands High School and plays basketball at Berry College now, and a brother Howie. Howie, a junior, was awarded the 2021 SMN Best of Preps Courage Award.
"My family always wanted me to follow my dream. They have always taken me to practice and pushed me to do extra workouts and extra practices," said Sierzant .
