The Calvary Day School Boys Varsity Soccer Team has made history with its fourth straight region win, but what makes this streak even more impressive is how they won. The Cavaliers trailed early in every match but refused to back down, fighting to thrilling comeback victories.
The 24'-25' Calvary Day School Boys Varsity Soccer Team made program history by winning its fourth straight region game on, March 6, 2025, with a 2-1 win over Johnson . Dating back to 2011, no other CDS-BVS team has ever won four region games in a row. Over the past fourteen years, only three teams in program history have won four or more games in a row.
The Cavs 18'-19' team finished with a 12-6-1 record and a four-game win streak (two non-region, two regions). The Calvary 19'-20 team was 6-0 and only played six games. The six-game winning streak was all non-region games played during the COVID-19-shortened season. Then, in 20'-21', the Cavs finished with a 7-5-3 record, which included a four-game win streak (two non-region, two regions).
The Record Regin Winning Streak
On February 25, Calvary hosted Groves for their 1st region game of the season. Groves struck first with a goal at the 15-minute mark of the first half. Fifteen minutes later, Calvary equalized, heading into the half tied 1-1. Calvary took the lead 1 minute into the second half and rode the game to a 2-1 win. (1st comeback win)
Two days later, February 27. Calvary's second Region game is away at Long County. LC jumps to a big lead, netting three goals in 25 minutes. Calvary didn't back down, grinding out two goals of their own at 4:50 and 2:06 left in the first half. Calvary equalized with their 3rd goal 22 minutes into the second half, and they won the game on their fourth goal scored with just over 2 minutes left in the game. (2nd comeback win)
On March 4, Calvary faced off against Windsor Forest in their third regional game, marking their first encounter with overtime this season. The match was closely contested until Windsor Forest launched an attack down the right side and delivered a cross into the box, resulting in a header that found the back of the net with just ten minutes left in the first half. Throughout the remainder of the first half and most of the second, Calvary pressed forward with intensity, determined to close the one-goal gap. It wasn't until the 35th minute of the second half that the Cavs finally equalized, pushing the game into overtime. With momentum on their side, Calvary scored just two minutes into the first overtime period and then strategically slowed the pace, holding on for a 2-1 victory. The Cavaliers achieved their third victory of the season after coming from behind.
Then, on March 6, Calvary got stung quickly by Johnson, carrying a one-goal deficit from the 10th minute to the 45th minute of the match. The equalizer came off a rocket direct kick just outside the left side of the eighteen, and the winning Bangor goal came from the same side of the field with 15 minutes left to play. (4th comeback win)
The Scorers
Leading the charge during this historic run has been Anson Greer with four goals, followed by Carter Batts (2), Talyn Chadwick (1), Shields Brown (1), Dylan Paruso (1), and Drew Sheldon (1). These players have stepped up in big moments, turning the tide when their team needed it most.
Greer called his game-winner against Groves "a real dandy" that brought the team closer. Defender Grady Shiver described the Long County game as "a roller coaster of emotions," Dylan Paruso, who scored the late game-winner in that match, said he knew he could score as soon as he locked eyes with Greer. Talyn Chadwick, who netted the decisive goal against Johnson, summed it up best: "Scoring is exhilarating, but scoring a winning goal is a whole new thing."
