Gianna Brown, a New Hampstead High School senior, has committed to continue her flag football career at NCAA Division II Emmanuel University. Brown, known for her dual-threat skills on offense and defense, is one of the top two-way players in the state.
Last season, Brown received All-State honors, Area Defensive Player of the Year, New Hampstead Most Valuable Player, and Savannah Morning News All-Greater Savannah first-team selection, according to New Hampstead High School Head Flag Football Coach Trey Lanier. Gianna was selected because she pulled 117 flags and had three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. On offense, Gianna had 513 receiving yards and 13 touchdown catches. Lanier had this to say about Brown.
"Gianna has been a pleasure to coach. She is a fierce competitor, tough as nails with an undying will to win. Gianna has incredible ball skills and great hands and can cover sideline to sideline from her linebacker position on defense. Emmanuel Univeristy is getting a game-changing player, a match-up nightmare for any team she plays." - NHHS Head Coach Trey Lanier.
Brown is not just a star on the flag football field; she excels in three other sports, volleyball, basketball, and soccer, making her one of Savannah's most versatile female athletes. As a junior, she won the 32nd Annual Hollis Stacy Award, recognizing the top female athlete in the Savannah Chatham County area last year.
