The Georgia High School Association 4A-Region 3 all-region team for boys basketball has been announced.
New Hampstead's Toland Daughtry III was named the Player of the Year. He had an impressive season, averaging 16 points, six rebounds, and four assists per game, leading his team to an undefeated regional championship.
Jeffrey Williams, the coach of New Hampstead who led the Phoenix to an overall record of 21-5 (10-0 region), has been named the Coach of the Year. Williams has led his team to an impressive turnaround from last year's 12-14 record to an undefeated region record this year. The team also won the GHSA Class 4A Region 3 tournament by defeating Benedictine in the finals with a score of 68-64. As voted by the region coaches, the following are the first, second, and honorable mention teams. Coach Williams has fought an uphill battle building the program while battling health issues. He feels blessed to win this award.
"This award means a lot because I have faced an uphill battle trying to build the program in the right way," said Williams. "The life lesson I want my players to take away from this is that not everyone will believe in your vision, but you have to do what you feel is right to achieve the goal you have set for yourself. I am blessed to be here after being in the hospital this time last year with a stroke and COVID."
