It was a strong day on the courts in the Savannah Area, and it started with tennis.

Savannah Country Day’s boys are moving on. The Hornets knocked off Landmark Christian 3-1 to punch their ticket to the Elite Eight. It came down to No. 1 singles, and Reed Dulaney delivered in a big moment. He closed it out with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 win in front of a packed home crowd. Country Day improves to 18-4 and now heads to Athens Academy, which comes in at 19-2, for the next round on Thursday.

Benedictine is right there with them.

The Cadets handled Dalton 3-1, doing so the way coaches like it: taking care of singles and controlling the match. Lachlan McIntosh, Hunter McIntosh, and Matt Tift all won in straight sets to seal it. Benedictine, now 14-6, moves on to the Elite Eight and will host Cambridge, 15-7, with match details still to be announced.

On the girls' side, Savannah Country Day kept it rolling with a 3-1 win over Fellowship Christian in Class 3A-1A. Savannah Arts battled but fell just short in a 3-2 loss to Hart County. St. Vincent’s ran into a tough Athens Academy team and dropped a 3-0 decision.

That is the headline: Tennis is still alive and pushing deeper into the state bracket.

Now, a quick look around the rest of the playoff picture.

In boys lacrosse, Richmond Hill survived a tight one, edging Calvary Day 10-9 to advance. Savannah Country Day saw its season end with an 11-5 loss to North Oconee.

On the soccer pitch, it was a tough night for local teams. Woodville-Tompkins fell 9-0 to Model, and Islands dropped a 1-0 decision to Monroe Area in a close match.

That is playoff sports this time of year. Some move on, some regroup, and a few are still right in the middle of it.

And there is plenty more coming up today across the Coastal Empire.
