On July 10, 2023, the Oakland Athletics selected former standout Richmond Hill High School and Georgia Tech baseball player Jackson Finley. Finley is a two-way player, pitcher, and infielder in the eighth round of the MLB Draft with the 226th overall choice.

Finley, a redshirt sophomore at Georgia Tech this season, has been chosen twice for the All-ACC team and earned two Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week awards, one in March and one in May 2023.

Jackson had a.328 batting average at the plate, hitting 17 home runs and knocking in 79 runs. On the mound, in 48 2/3 innings this season, Jackson had a 6.47 ERA and a 2-4 record as a pitcher. He walked 25 hitters while striking out 42. Finley had a great pitching outing against rival Georgia Georgia on March 5, 2023. He was the winning pitcher as he tossed four innings, giving up only two hits and one earned run and striking out four batters in a 4-1 Yellow Jacket win.

Some of Finley's scouting reports from the internet are listed below:

  • "Finley is a projectable right-hander with a mid-90s fastball that can touch 98 mph. He also has a good slider and changeup. He's a good athlete who could also be a valuable outfielder." - MLB.com

  • "Finley is a two-way player with the potential to be a star at the major league level. He's a good pitcher with a fastball that can touch 98 mph. He's also a good hitter with power." - Baseball America

  • "Finley is a raw talent with a lot of potential. He's a two-way player who could be a valuable asset to the Athletics. He's got a lot of work to do, but he has the tools to be a star." - FanGraphs
