Two local athletes are making headlines for big achievements, showing that hard work at home can lead to recognition across the state and the nation.

Benedictine junior Bear Dollander and Savannah native Elijah Griffin both earned major honors in their sports, putting Savannah-area athletes in the spotlight.

Dollander Selected to Team Georgia in Junior Golf

Benedictine junior Bear Dollander has been named to Team Georgia for 2026 as part of the United States Golf Association’s State Junior Team program.

Dollander was one of 24 players selected statewide, including 12 boys and 12 girls. Players were selected based on their performances in top junior tournaments during the 2025 season.

The USGA State Junior Team program was created to develop elite golfers ages 13–18 by providing high-level competition and training opportunities. Georgia is one of only a few states selected to take part in the program.

Dollander’s selection places him among the top junior golfers in the state and reflects his strong results on the course throughout the year.

Griffin Earns Freshman All-America Honors at Georgia

Savannah native and Savannah Christian alumnus Elijah Griffin continues to shine at the college level.

Griffin earned Freshman All-America honors from the Football Writers Association of America after a standout first season with the Georgia Bulldogs.

The true freshman played in all 14 games for Georgia, finishing with 22 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and a forced fumble. He helped anchor a defensive line that held opponents to just 81.5 rushing yards per game.

Georgia went on to win the SEC championship and reach the College Football Playoff. Griffin was one of three Bulldogs named to the FWAA Freshman All-America team.

From the golf links to the football field, Dolander and Griffin are proving that Savannah-area athletes can compete at the highest levels. Their achievements not only bring pride to their schools but also set an example for young athletes across the Savannah area.
