Savannah Area Prep Roundup: Who Won and Who’s Moving On?

On Saturday, January 10, 2026, the Savannah area had a busy night of high school sports, including basketball and wrestling. Basketball had region and non-region games. Local boys wrestling teams competed in region dual tournaments to qualify for the GHSA Team Duals next week. 

In girls’ basketball, Woodville-Tompkins edged St. Andrew’s 67–66. Bradwell Institute topped Brunswick 73–45, Beach beat Memorial Day 51–45, Savannah Country Day won over Pinewood Christian 32–27, and Statesboro, Glynn Academy, Johnson, and Bradwell also claimed victories. 

For boys’ basketball, Wayne County beat Benedictine 34–32, Johnson edged Wilkinson County 71–70, Savannah Country Day topped Pinewood Christian 88–59, Glynn Academy defeated South Effingham 89–86, and Bradwell Institute comfortably beat Brunswick 59–33. 

Shifting focus to wrestling, South Effingham won the Class 5A Region 1 Duals and moves on with Brunswick. Jenkins and Long County advanced from the Class 3A Region 3 Duals. These teams will now compete at the state championships on January 16–17: Class 5A at Legacy Arena in Douglasville and Class 3A at Jefferson High School. 

As the action continues, next week’s spotlight shifts to girls’ wrestling. The Division 1 and 2 team dual preliminaries will be held January 15th through 17th, setting the stage for the girls' state dual championships on January 24th. GHSA Boys Team Duals Wrestling State Championships to be held on January 16-17

GHSA 5A will be held at the Legacy Arena in Douglasville, and GHSA Class 3A will be at Jefferson High School.
