Offense – Jayvion Williams, Beach High School
Williams led Beach to a win over Windsor Forest by accounting for six touchdowns, passing for 223 yards and four scores, while also rushing for 103 yards and two touchdowns.

The senior linebacker, a Florida A&M commit, anchored the Warriors’ defense with several tackles, a sack, and an interception in a convincing 45-7 win over Liberty County. Izzard finished with eight solo tackles, three assists, one sack, one pass breakup, and one interception, helping Jenkins maintain its strong defensive identity.

The Savannah Quarterback Club's huddle guest speaker was Pete Cordelli, a former coach at Notre Dame and Kent State, who shared stories and advice from his years in college football.

Week 5 Honorees

Week 5 saw the first games at the new Groves Stadium in Garden City, Georgia. The Club honored two outstanding offensive athletes during this historic week, and on defense, a Calvary Day School linebacker.

Offense – Ethan McKinney and Henry Lyon, Islands High School
Running back Ethan McKinney rushed for 212 yards on 21 carries and scored a touchdown, setting a single-game rushing record for Islands. McKinney also played on the defensive line and was part of a pass that was a fake run, resulting in a touchdown.

Offensive lineman Henry Lyon paved the way for a strong ground game in Islands High School's win over Groves, ending a long losing streak. Lyon, also a member of the marching band, was recognized for his leadership and attitude.

McKinney said the honor reflects his team’s hard work and determination. “It means a lot. Our toughness comes from how we push each other in the weight room and on the field. This motivates me to keep working and learn from mistakes. I thank God, my family, coaches, and teammates.”

Lyon shared that the award serves as a motivator, especially for newcomers. "It means a lot, especially being in my third month in Savannah. Being recognized by people I don’t know motivates me. I’ve learned accountability makes you better, even when it’s hard," he said.

Lyon credited his longtime youth football coach, “Poppy,” for teaching him respect and the value of hard work, saying, “I’ve played for him about 12 years. He’s taught me respect and to work for everything.”

Defense – Jeffrey McCormick, Calvary Day School
Junior linebacker Jeffrey McCormick was in Windsor’s backfield all game long in Calvary Day’s win over Windsor Forest, registering six tackles and five sacks as the defense dominated from start to finish.

McCormick said the award reflects his teammates’ hard work: "This shows our hard work pays off. You can’t get amazing alone; teammates hold you accountable. After getting this award, I know I’m held to a higher standard. I owe a lot to my coaches and teammates for pushing me."

Week 5 guest speaker was Antonio Langham, former University of Alabama All-American and NFL defensive back, who spoke to the Savannah Quarterback Club team about leadership, discipline, and perseverance on and off the field.

Continuing a Tradition

Founded in 1946, the Savannah Quarterback Club traces its origins to a group of local football supporters who established the club to promote high school football, talk college football, and recognize athletic excellence in the community. As the oldest club of its kind in Georgia and one of the longest-running football clubs in the nation, it has maintained its tradition by meeting each Monday night during the college and high school football season to honor the offensive and defensive players of the week and feature guest speakers who have shaped the sport.
