As usual, the Savannah Quarterback Club recognized four athletes for their outstanding play on the football field. In weeks six and seven, teammates stood out on the gridiron to win the weekly award. The players got advice in week six from guest speakers, Mohamed Massaquoi and week seven Josh Pate.
Massaquoi played wide receiver at Georgia. In the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns choose him. Massaquoi also played for the New York Jets and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The guest speaker for week seven was Josh Pate, a national college football analyst for 247Sports and CBS Sports HQ. He is also the creator and host of The Late Kick with Josh Pate, which airs live on the 247Sports YouTube channel and all podcast platforms.
Week Seven
Offensive player of the week: Joshua Washington WR, Savannah Country Day
In the Hornets 35-21 win over Johnson High School, the freshman wide receiver caught seven passes for a career-high 129 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensive Player of the Week: Derrick "Rooster" Bing DT, Savannah Country Day
When the Hornets beat Johnson High School, the junior lineman stood out. Bing made eight tackles and two sacks on defense. He had four tackles for loss and two sacks.
Week Six
Offensive player of the week: Luke Kromenhoek, QB Benedictine Military
Luke Kromenhoek, the Quarterback for Benedictine Military School, is the offensive player of the week for week 6. In their 26-7 win over The Bolles School, the junior completed 19 of 25 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns.
Cody Brinson, CB Benedictine Military
Cody Brinson, a defensive back for Benedictine, was named the defensiveplayer of the week by the Savannah Quarterback Club for week 6. In BC's big win at The Bolles School, the Senior Defensive Back made nine tackles and had two interceptions.
