Savannah Country Day School Football Welcomes Coach Joey Blackmore as Interim Leader During Transition

Savannah Country Day School announced on Friday, January 10, 2025, another change for its football program. Coach Batten has decided to return to Tennessee after one season to be closer to his family. As noted in the SCDS letter to the Hornet community, Coach Batten demonstrated dedication and passion for the program during his time with the Hornets. 

Coach Joey Blackmore, a teacher and coach at Savannah County Day since 2021, is stepping into the role of interim varsity football coach and program director. Coach Blackmore has served in various capacities in the SCDS football program, including Offensive and Defensive Coordinator, Running Back Coach for the Varsity team, and Head Coach for the Middle School football teams this season. He has also coached track and field and wrestling.

Coach Blackmore has an impressive resume for his new role. As a North Dakota State University player, he won three FCS National Championships, followed by two more titles as a Defensive Backs Coach. His coaching career has also included roles as Defensive Coordinator at the University of Jamestown and Minnesota State University, where he helped guide the team to its best season in program history in 2018.

Beyond his professional achievements, Coach Blackmore is deeply connected to the Savannah Country Day community. His wife, Ashtin, a second-grade teacher at SCDS, and their two children are proud Hornets.
