Savannah's Barber qualifies for US Women's Amateur

Savannah Coutry Day School rising junior Kate Barber posted a score of 2-under par 70 at Bent Pine Golf Club in Winter Beach, Florida, on June 28 to qualify for a spot in the US Women's Amateur championship being played August 8-14 at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington.

Barber was 2-over through her first four holes in the qualifer but rallied to play her last 14 holes in 4-under par and punch a ticket to the US Women's Amateur championship, the most prestigious women's amateur event in the country each year. Less than a month ago, Barber qualified to compete at the PGA Junior Championship being played August 2-5 at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Palos Park, Illinois, near Chicago.
