Savannah United 2008 Girls Premier wins U-13 at Elite Cup

The Savannah United 2008 Girls soccer team advanced to the championship of the 2021 Elite Cup in the U-13 bracket and defeated Tampa Bay United Soccer Club's 2008 girls team in penalty kicks on February 7 at the Jennifer Ross Soccer Complex in Savannah. 

On February 6, Savannah United 08 Girls defeated the Coast 08 Red team from Sinc Sports, 4-1, and lost 1-0 to the Tampa Bay 08 team. On Sunday prior to championship, Savnanah United defeated JCF Jacksonville by a score of 5-0 to gain a berth in the final.

The championship ended regulation tied 0 to 0 and again after overtime. Savannah United won penalty kicks, 4-1, to claim the championship.

Savannah United 2008 Girls are no strangers to success. The team finished as finalists for the 2020 Fall Georgia Premier League, promoting them to them to play in the National League Piedmont Conference for the 2021 Spring Season.

These talented young athletes closed out the 2020 season with two tournament victories in both the U13 and U14 divisions. In the highly competitive Adidas Cup, Savannah United 2008 Girls went undefeated in the U13 Gold bracket. In the Savannah United Finale, the team played up in U14 Silver bracket and shut out every opponent it faced.

Three of the team's players - Alexia-Mae Goodman, Amelia Reci and Anna Shoemate - were recently re-selected to represent Georgia in the Olympic Development Program. Additionally, Abigale Tvrdy, and one of the team's guest players during the 2021 Elite Cup, Kamila Pena, were invited based on their outstanding performances during a tryout.

Reci, Shoemate, Goodman and Lila Sharp have also been selected to play for an Elite Clubs National League dual roster with Florida Elite.

The team's manager is Alisha Shoemate and the coaches include Jeff Storey-Pitts, Gary Wright, and Edmund Eastick.
