Senior Spotlight: Ella Higdon (South Effingham High School)

Ella is a senior and a standout soccer player at South Effingham High School. Higdon played various positions on the soccer field for the Lady Mustangs. Ella has been a four-year letter winner at South Effingham.  Higdon’s soccer career started because she had a lot of energy as a tiny kid and her parents put her in the sport which required the most running, soccer. Ella will take her talents and energy to the next level as she committed to extend her soccer career at Reinhardt University in Waleska, Georgia next year.

Higdon outside of high school soccer, played outside defender for Savannah United 02 Premier team. Her  proudest moment in her career is when her Savannah United 02 Premier team won the 2016 State Championship in the 16U division. It was the first Savannah United Club Championship. The head coach of that team, David Shuman, was the most influential person in Ella’s athletic career. The coaches quote that she will remember the most is “get on the line.” So, next year besides getting on the line at Reinhardt University soccer. Higdon’s plans is a get a degree in elementary education to teach and also to coach soccer after graduating.

The "Coach" Karl DeMasi has been teaching and coaching for the past 35 years on all levels of academia and athletics. One of his hobbies has been writing, announcing and talking about sports. DeMasi has been involved in the Savannah Area sports scene since 1995, and he created the high school magazine "The Prep Sports Report" in 2000. In 2010, the "Coach" started broadcasting The Karl DeMasi Sports Report. He's still going strong, broadcasting on Facebook live and Twitter live every Saturday morning. You gotta love it!
