On Saturday December 7, 2024, South Effingham's boys' basketball team secured a 63-62 win over Effingham County in a game that didn't count toward the region standings but meant everything to the Mustangs. This victory ended a long 34-game losing streak to cross-county rival Effingham County High School and was a total team effort, with contributions from all players.

South Effingham led by nine points in the second half, but Effingham County rallied late. Efingham's Elijah Doty scored 12 points in the fourth quarter to cut South's lead to just one. With Effingham out of timeouts, South Effingham held on, thanks to a critical offensive rebound by Corey Woods, who passed to Marcus Campbell. Campbell calmly hit two free throws to seal the win, and Corbin McGuire ran out the clock in the final moments according to SEHS head coach Rico Campbell.

Campbell stated, "The entire team came together to break a long 34-game losing streak, with 14 players stepping up to make a difference in the victory."

Will Harlin led South Effingham with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Quinton Williams added 13 points and 6 rebounds, while Marcus Campbell contributed 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Corbin McGuire finished with 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists.

This hard-fought victory was a true team effort. It broke the streak and will build momentum for South Effingham's next game against Camden on Friday.
