Thirty wins. One loss. A No. 1 ranking.

Those numbers belong to different teams, and each gives local fans something to talk about in this week’s Sunday Standings.

Savannah Christian volleyball has reached 30 wins. St. Andrew’s has lost just once. South Effingham softball holds the No. 1 postseason ranking in its group.

Plenty is happening on the football field.

Richmond Hill stands 5-1. Benedictine, Calvary Day and South Effingham are each 4-1. Windsor Forest and Bethesda Academy sit at 3-1.

But watch those region records, too. Benedictine and Jenkins are both 2-0 in Region 1-5A. Effingham County is 2-0 in Region 1-6A. Those wins matter as teams work toward November.

At the net, Savannah Christian is 30-2 overall and 5-0 in area play. The Raiders also rank No. 1 in the postseason. St. Andrew’s is 23-1 and leads its region at 4-0.

South Effingham volleyball deserves attention, too. The Mustangs are 26-8 and unbeaten in region play (10-0). Savannah Arts Academy is 18-8 with a perfect 5-0 record in the area.

On the softball diamond, South Effingham and Richmond Hill still have zeros in the region loss column. The Mustangs are 17-2 overall and 8-0 in region play. The Wildcats are 15-6 and 9-0 in region play.

Long County is 15-2 with a 7-0 region mark and a No. 1 postseason ranking. Appling County has yet to lose, standing 18-0.

Here’s the new number to watch.

This week’s standings include a Postseason Rankings column.

The GHSA formula considers a team’s winning percentage, how well its opponents have played, and how well those opponents’ opponents have played. Your record matters. So does who you play. Those results help determine postseason positioning.

The lower the ranking number, the better the position. No. 1 is the top spot in that team’s postseason group.

Benedictine football is No. 7. Calvary is No. 10. Richmond Hill is No. 11. In softball, Richmond Hill is No. 6.

The GHSA uses Post Season Rankings to help select and seed the 32 teams in each playoff bracket. Region champions also receive seeding protections.

Think of this as a look at where your team stands today. A top 32 ranking puts a team in the current playoff picture. It does not lock up a spot.

These rankings keep changing as scores come in. There is still work to do.

The tables remain sorted by overall record within each region. Find your school below, check its region record, and take a look at that new column.
