Volleyball Roundup: Pink Nights, ECHS Rebel reaches milestone, RHHS on a roll, Habersham headed to GAPPS playoff

Effingham County High School

 

Cailin Pritchard, an Effingham County High School senior, had a big night on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, when she got her 1,000th kill. She is only the second player at ECHS to get 1,000 kills. The last person to do so was in 2016. It was pretty cool to reach the goal on senior night.

 

 

Richmond Hill High School

 

The Richmond Hill High School volleyball team is 32-4 overall. With their win over Colquitt County High School on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, they are now in first place in GHSA 7A Area 1 with a record of 5–0 with three region matches remaining. Also, with the win, the volleyball team broke the record for the most wins in a season.

 

The Habersham School host Pink Night

 

The Habersham School hosted its 9th annual Pink Night tri-match last night. In the first match, Habersham lost to South Effingham 22-25, 14-25. Brownette Olson led the way with four kills, Maddie Viles, Pier Schneider, and Kambria Settlemyer had three each. Addison Beaver had 13 digs and Lucy Kelly 1 kill, 13 assists, and nine digs.

 In the last match of the evening, Habersham lost to Savannah Arts 15-25, 14-25. Pier Schneider led the way in the loss with five kills, Olson with four, and Settlemyer with three and eight digs. Lucy Kelly had one kill and 13 assists.

Habersham finished its regular season 11-20 and undefeated in the region. They will play in GAPPS DI A Region 4 tournament this weekend in Statesboro.

 

 

Savannah Country Day

SCDS defeats Johnson High School 2-0 (25-8, 25-9)

 

A rescheduled game is never the easiest, but the Lady Hornets made it look that way! The girls hit at a .667% as a team and recorded 24 kills on the night. 7 and 6 of those came from Sophomores MD Sumner and Ayo Ajayi. Lilla Brennan and Fiona had 8 and 6 assists, respectively, with Cayden Osterman chipping in 3. In the back row, Harris Stone dug it up with four kills.

Overall Record: 13-14 Region Record: 6-1

St. Vincent's vs. SCPS, then Benedictine on Pink Night

 

Back-to-back nights at St. Vincent's Academy gym were hopping. On Tuesday night, October 4, 2022, the Varsity team defeated Savannah Christian Prep in an area match and won 2-1 to claim the number 1 seed in next week's area tournament. The Junior varsity also defeated SCPS to remain undefeated, and the freshman team took their first loss.

Then on Wednesday night saw the SVA gym all dressed out in Pink. The varsity volleyball team hosted their counterpart school Benedictine Cadets in an exhibition matches to raise money for  the Mary Telfair Mammography Fund.The school has helped the Mary Telfair DFund with their Pink Night for ten years.
