The Benedictine Cadets have found their footing, and that fact was evident Friday night at Memorial Stadium as the 4th ranked team in Class 4A played host to Ware County, the No. 2 team in Class 5A.

BC (3-2) won 49-42 in an offensive explosion of a non-region game in front of a packed house of fans. Those fans were treated to a South Georgia classic as Cadet senior quarterback Holden Geriner connected with senior receiver Justin Thomas late in the fourth quarter for the go-ahead touchdown.

According to Dennis Knight of The Savannah Morning News, Geriner threw for 415 yards and three touchdowns on 29-of-40 passing. He added three more rushing scores for a sensational six on the night.

Za’Quan Bryan as well as the athlete Thomas, helped to pace head coach Danny Britt’s suddenly-hot team.

Bryan had 13 catches for 186 yards and a score while Thomas added 115 receiving yards. Safety Ben Hollerback had a big night with an interception and several big hits breaking up would-be completions.

Ware’s UCF-bound quarterback Thomas Castellanos rushed for 118 yards, 61 of those yards came in the first quarter.

BC began the season at 0-2, but since then have reeled off three straight wins. During the winning streak, BC’s offense has averaged 49.3 points per contest.

Ware County (4-1) tallied over 300 rushing yards in the loss. BC racked up nearly 600 yards of total offense. Cadets’ senior linebacker Holden Sapp had an interception returned for a TD, his second pick-six of the season.

Benedictine will likely be a Top-3 team in the state next week as it heads to Jonesboro on a short week to play Burke County Thursday night at 7 p.m.

The Sharks are now 3-2.

RICHMOND HILL 37, BRADWELL INSTITUTE 14

Richmond Hill (1-3, 1-0) cruised to the Region 2-6A win on Homecoming at Wildcat Stadium. It was the first win of the season for head coach Matt LeZotte’s bunch. The Wildcats led 27-7 through three quarters and never looked in danger of losing.

RHHS was led by Ryan Dekle’s 119 yards rushing and a touchdown, Ravon Gant’s five reception, 137 yard receiving performance and quarterback Ty Goldrick’s 196 yards (13-19 passing) and two touchdowns (one passing, one rushing).
