Former BC golfer medals at US Open local qualifying

Former Benedictine Military School and current University of North Georgia golfer Hughes Threlkeld posted a score of 5-under par 65 on April 22 to medal at a US Open local qualifier played at Marietta Country Club.

Threlkeld, part of the Class of 2021 at BC and a junior at North Georgia, was two strokes better than runner Jacob Keen from Midland, Ga. He is one of seven players to advance to US Open sectional qualifying that will take place this summer at several sites around the country.

The previous week, Threlkeld placed sixth at the Peach Belt Conference championship at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, helping propel the North Georgia men's golf team to its first conference championship in program history. The Nighthawks are ranked No. 1 in the nation and won the Peach Belt Conference championship played April 19-21 by 18 strokes.  

During the 2023-24 season, Threlkeld has playedin all 12 tournaments the team ahs played and has played the most rounds of any golfer on the North Georgia team with 32. His scoring average is 72.28 with a low roun of 66, and he has recorded one top five and one top 10 finish.
