Travis Blackshear, a former standout football player from Benedictine and a graduate student from Furman University, has been selected as an All-America Second-Team Football College Series (FCS) choice by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). He has concluded his collegiate career after being a four-year starter at Furman University.

Blackshear, team captain and a defensive back for the Paladins, had an outstanding season. He made 29 tackles, four interceptions, and nine pass breakups. He had two crucial interceptions against Chattanooga, which were game-changers. One helped the team win the SoCon title, and the other secured their victory in the second-round playoff.

Travis had an impressive career as a defensive back for the Furman program. He received three All-SoCon selections and was named to the 2023 AP All-America second team. With 200 tackles and 13 interceptions, Blackshear holds the seventh-highest career interceptions for Furman football. During his time with the team, he played in 58 games and started in a record-breaking 51 games as a defensive back.

He played multiple positions, such as running back, wide receiver, and defensive back, and was a player on the state championship teams during his freshman and junior years. He played a significant role in Benedictine's 27-game winning streak during his junior and senior years.

In 2017, he was named a team captain and received Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Georgia Sportswriters Association (1st Team) All-State recognition for his incredible performance as a running back.
