Two Hornets and a Wildcat snagged this week's John Carr Seaport Real Estate Prep Sports Report Baseball Players of the Week. The honors go to Savannah Country Day's Brooks Kleinpeter for reaching a career milestone, Richmond Hill's Tony Berry for his consistent production during a region series, and Savannah Country Day's Tyler Scott for an outstanding no-hit performance on the mound.
Player of the Week – Brooks Kleinpeter (Savannah Country Day, Senior)
Kleinpeter reached a significant milestone on April 10, recording his 100th career hit against Vidalia. A four-year contributor for SCDS, Kleinpeter plays multiple sports and positions and is a leader with heart, effort, and respect both on and off the field.
In the game, Kleinpeter stepped up from the bullpen during the first inning, facing no outs, and pitched for seven impressive innings, showcasing his versatility. Throughout the season, he has a batting average of .302. He has logged 33 innings as a pitcher, posting a record of 1-1, with 31 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.75. Kleinpeter committed back in February to play football at Murray State.
"Brooks exemplifies what it means to be a great high school athlete. 100 hits is not only a testament to his talent but to his hard work and perseverance. SCDS baseball could not be prouder," said Savannah Country Day head coach Chuck Broadman.
Player of the Week – Tony Berry (Richmond Hill, Senior)
Berry had a strong three-game series on April 8 and a doubleheader on April 11 at the plate vs. Colquitt County, batting .400 with a .455 on-base percentage, a triple, and a double. According to Richmond Hill head coach Hill Thomas, he was also perfect in the field and provided a consistent spark at the top of the Wildcats' lineup. Berry just committed to playing baseball at Gardner Webb.
"Tony had a very productive series against Colquitt. He was a spark at the top of the lineup and made every at bat a competitive one," said Richmond Hill head coach Hill Thomas.
Pitcher of the Week – Tyler Scott (Savannah Country Day, Senior)
Scott delivered a lights-out performance with a no-hitter against Vidalia, showing total control and composure on the mound. The senior is known for his talent, steady presence, and leadership.
Scott has thrown 34 innings, racking up 59 strikeouts. He holds a record of 2 wins and 2 losses, along with an impressive earned run average of 2.65. At the plate, Scott is hitting .317. Tyler Scott committed to playing football at Bryant University on National Signing Day in December.
"Tyler is an all-around competitor and brings a level of composure to the game that you don't often see in high school athletes. His no-hitter is just a glimpse of the young man I get to coach every day," said Savannah Country Day head coach Chuck Broadman.
