The flag football state playoffs of the Georgia High School Association have arrived. Seven programs in the Savannah area have qualified for the Georgia High School Association Division-I postseason. The first and second rounds of the playoffs are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

The seven teams, including area winners Calvary and New Hampstead, Islands, Jenkins, St. Vincent's, Savannah Country Day, and South Effingham, hope to play on Thursday, December 7, 2023.

The quarterfinals and semi-finals will be played on December 7, 2023, and if multiple No.1 seeds advance, a coin toss will determine the host site. The D-I state championship is scheduled for December 12 at 2:00 PM at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

It's been an excellent year for prep sports in the area, with undefeated New Hampstead leading the GA Class 1 MaxPreps.com standings at 16-0-0. Other notable schools include Savannah Country Day at No. 5, Calvary Day School at No. 9, St. Vincent's Academy at No. 19, South Effingham at No. 23, Jenkins at No. 28, and Islands at No. 33. Seventy-two teams played flag football this season in GHSA Division 1 (Class 1-4).

The head coaches of the schools that won the area, Calvary Day School Nick Grassi and New Hampstead head coach Trey Lanier, were asked what it meant to win the area and host the first and second rounds.

For Calvary Head Coach Nick Grassi stated, "We are excited to host the first two rounds. We only had four games this year, and the girls really earned it; winning the area for the fourth year in a row took a lot this year. Long County came here and put it to us, showing what kind of resilience our girls have to stick to the grind and win the area again."

"After two years of being area runner-up, we were determined to break through this year, and we did. But this team's eyes have been on the state championship from the start. They know winning the area is a great accomplishment, but it's not the ultimate goal," said New Hampstead head coach Trey Lanier. "Hosting in the first two rounds of the state playoffs, we face three tough opponents: Sumter, Wheeler, and Long. We know every team from here on is tough, and if we want to finish the job winning the state championship, we need to execute at a higher level than we have been. We're excited for the challenge!"
