It was a long haul on Monday—more than 240 miles one way for every team—as four Savannah programs hit the road for high-stakes Georgia High School Association (GHSA) flag football playoff games. They were all chasing the same prize: a shot at the championship stage inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium. By the end of the night, only one was still standing.
Jenkins High School delivered two dominant performances in the GHSA Division 2 Therrell Quadrant, earning the Warriors a place in next week’s state title matchup. Meanwhile, Calvary Day, Richmond Hill, and St. Vincent’s Academy were all eliminated after hard-fought losses that ended otherwise strong seasons.
Jenkins Rolls Through Therrell Quadrant, Advances to State Championship
Jenkins (21-1) put together one of the program’s most complete postseason showings, shutting out unbeaten Therrell 34–0 in Round 3 before defeating Jonesboro 27–7 in the semifinal.
In the opener, the Warriors overwhelmed Therrell with speed on both sides of the ball, forcing turnovers and converting short fields into touchdowns. Their defensive pressure never let up, holding Therrell scoreless for the first time this postseason.
The semifinal brought another fast start. Jenkins established control early, leaned on its experienced core, and closed out a convincing win to secure a berth in the GHSA Division 2 championship.
The Warriors will face Greenbrier (21–3) in the title game on
Monday, Dec. 15, at 1:00 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
It’s among Savannah’s strongest playoff runs and offers Jenkins a chance at the state title.
Calvary Day Falls to Greenbrier in Division 2 Redan Quadrant
Calvary Day (15-8) entered the quarterfinal matchup looking to ride its defensive momentum from the first two rounds, but Greenbrier 25, Calvary Day 0 ended the Cavaliers’ postseason push.
Greenbrier, ranked among the state's top teams, used its depth and pace to gradually pull away. Calvary’s defense held strong early, but field position and missed opportunities made it difficult for the Cavaliers to respond.
The loss ends another solid season for Calvary, a perennial playoff team.
Richmond Hill Wins Quarterfinal, Falls in Semifinal to Whitewater
Richmond Hill (16-2) opened the evening with a strong 14–7 win over Locust Grove in the Division 3 Whitewater Quadrant. The Wildcats controlled the clock, prevented big plays, and made timely stops to advance to the semifinal.
But in the Round 4 matchup, a defensive battle went against them. Whitewater edged Richmond Hill 6–0, ending the Wildcats’ impressive season one game short of the championship qualifier.
Richmond Hill ranks among the area’s top programs.
St. Vincent’s Academy Eliminated in Division 1 Quarterfinal
In the Division 1 Columbus Quadrant, St. Vincent’s Academy (11-5) battled a Washington County team but came up short, falling 28–19.
The Saints kept the game within reach into the second half, but Washington County’s ability to stretch the field and capitalize on turnovers proved to be the difference.
St. Vincent’s playoff run ends in the elite eight, marking another strong season.
One Savannah Team Still Standing
With three local teams out and only Jenkins advancing, Savannah has one representative in the championship. Jenkins' path was built on defense, timely scoring, and poise in their 21-1 season.
Jenkins now turns its attention to Greenbrier, with the GHSA Flag Football Division 2 state championship waiting in Atlanta on Monday at 1 p.m.
