A three-time All-Region selection and former Region Offensive Player of the Year, Mixon was a do-it-all leader for the Hornets and leaves a lasting legacy on and off the field. He has been a part of the SCDS community for 10 years, and as he smiled while reflecting on it, being a Hornet truly held a special meaning for him.

"I've been at Country Day since second grade. I love the school, I love the people," said Mixon. "It means everything to go out on Friday nights with teammates I've known since I was little."

Mixon's Impact On and Off the Field

Mixon, a 6'0", 200-pound quarterback, running back, and cornerback, finished his high school career with 3,220 passing yards and 37 touchdowns, 1,278 rushing yards and 11 scores, and 235 receiving yards with one touchdown. He totaled 50 touchdowns, including one on defense, and added 55 tackles, three interceptions, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery as a defender, per SCDS interim head Coach Joey Blackmore.

In his junior season as the starting quarterback —he had 1,837 passing yards, 26 TDs, a 60% completion rate, and 836 rushing yards with 11 scores. At the same time, receiving the honor of wearing #5 for the Hornets.

"Wearing #5 for Stu [Stuart Sligh Jr.] meant a lot, and his legacy lives on through the football program for all of us," said Mixon. "Our senior group stuck together through everything. We knew we only had one senior year, and we made the most of it."

Mixon said Sewanee felt like the right place, both athletically and academically.

"I felt valued by the coaches and team right away. It just clicked," said Mixon. "I'll be majoring in biology. I want to go to med school, and Sewanee's academic reputation is what drew me in."

He also credited his family:

"Going to school here at Country Day is not cheap. From school to camps, to training, they've supported me in every way. I'm incredibly thankful."

Five Hornets Signed to College Football Programs

Hyers Holland – Case Western Reserve University

Holland, a 6'0", 190-pound running back and cornerback, emerged as a playmaker in his last three games, rushing for 131 yards with three touchdowns versus Episcopal School of Jacksonville, with a 108-yard game against Vidalia, and 144 against Mount Vernon. Known for his speed and work ethic, Holland chose Case Western for its top-tier pre-med program. Like Mixon, he hopes to attend medical school.

He also excelled in clay target shooting, helping Country Day win state championships in 2022 and 2024, and was named an NSSA All-American in skeet shooting.

He earned All-Region 3A Division I first-team honors after leading the Hornets with 142 tackles, a sack, an interception, and four pass breakups. Scott has signed to play at Bryant University. The AJC named him an All-State honorable mention.

In addition to football, Scott also played for the Hornets' baseball team, showing his ability as an athlete and his support for his team.

Andrew Wynn – University of Tennessee at Chattanooga

A 6'5 ", 215-pound defensive end, Wynn stood out for his versatility. He recorded 16 pass breakups and two interceptions as a junior defensive back. After moving to the defensive line, he added five sacks and nine tackles for loss.
