Benedictine Wrestlers Showcase Depth and Skill at Yellow Jacket Duals

The Benedictine wrestling team pinned a strong performance at the Yellow Jacket Duals in Jeff Davis County on Saturday, December 7, 2024, finishing third out of 21 competing teams. Over two days, the Cadets secured victories over Swainsboro (64-18), Irwin County (44-34), and Dodge County (74-6) in Pool D, finishing second after a narrow 42-38 loss to West Laurens.

The Cadets finished well in pool play, which earned them a spot in the Gold Bracket, featuring the top eight teams of the tournament. After a 66-17 loss to Ware County, the Cadets bounced back to defeat Dodge County 44-35. In the third-place match, Benedictine avenged their earlier loss to West Laurens with a thrilling 37-36 victory, highlighted by three consecutive wins to close the meet. Walker Minnich, competing at 144 pounds, secured the decisive points with a pin in the final match.

Top individual performers included sophomore Aiden Simmons (120 pounds, 8-0 record), freshman AJ West (132 pounds, 7-1 record), senior Connor Desautels (138 pounds, 7-1 record), and sophomore Walker Minnich (144 pounds, 7-1 record). Their efforts helped lead the Cadets to a standout showing in the tournament.

Tonight is Senior Night for Benedictine Military School Wrestling, featuring a quad meet against Savannah Country Day, Johnson, and Long County at 6 PM. Senior wrestlers who will be recognized are Connor Desautels (138 lbs), Jackson Garber (157 lbs), and Zachary Krauss (165 lbs).
