This was a first-place showdown late in the season in GHSA A DI Region 3 between Savannah Christian (7-2, 17-8) and Toombs County (4-2, 12-10), both tied and battling for the top spot. With two weeks left in region play, the Raiders now sit alone in first.

Game one set the tone in a big way. Savannah Christian rolled 15 to 0 behind a big early burst and never let up. The Raiders scored in every inning through the fourth and put the pressure on from the start.

Chase Boyer had another monster day, going 3 for 3 with all extra-base hits, an RBI double, a grand slam, and a three-run home run, finishing with 3 runs scored and 8 RBIs. Mason Omohundro went 3 for 3, scored 4 runs, and drove in 2. Brian Hong added 2 RBIs, and Brantley Bilenski went 1 for 1 and scored 2 runs. On the mound, Hong was in control, 4 innings, 2 hits allowed, no runs, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts.

Game two turned into a pitcher’s duel, and Toombs County showed why they were tied for first. They edged out a 1 to 0 win behind Ty Hutchinson, who threw a complete game shutout, 7 innings, 3 hits, no runs, 3 walks, 5 strikeouts.

Savannah Christian got a strong outing from Ethan Jones, 5 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 1 earned, and Griffin Graham kept it right there late. The Raiders just could not push a run across.

Game three, and this is where Savannah Christian took control.

The Raiders jumped out with 5 runs in the first inning and never trailed in a 9-4 win. Mason Omohundro stayed hot, going 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a walk. Brody Schuman delivered again, going 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Chase Boyer drove in 2 runs, Cardin Patrick added 2 hits and an RBI, Brian Hong chipped in 2 RBIs, and Brayden Austin added an RBI to help extend the lead.

On the mound, Brody Schuman earned the win, giving Savannah Christian 3 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Brayden Austin was sharp in relief, 2 innings, no hits, no runs, 3 walks, 5 strikeouts. Caden Godbee closed the door, striking out 6 over the final 2 innings.

Bottom line, this was a first-place matchup with a playoff feel, and Savannah Christian delivered when it mattered most. The Raiders now control the region race. Toombs County (4-2, 12-10) and Vidalia (4-2, 16-8), who the Raiders also took the series 2-1 in mid-March, are right there, but Savannah Christian holds the tiebreaker over both.

Two weeks left, and now everyone is chasing the Raiders.
