The Lady Cavaliers shut out Woodville-Tompkins 20-0 Wednesday night, finishing 8-0 in area play and winning their first area title since 2023.

Quarterback Page Stewart threw three touchdown passes and surpassed 10,000 career passing yards during the championship game. She opened the scoring on Calvary’s first possession, connecting with Rily Grassi for a 30-yard touchdown in the first quarter.

Stewart extended the lead in the second quarter with a 50-yard touchdown pass to Makayla Modicue, who caught the ball in stride down the right sideline with two minutes left in the first half. Thirty seconds later, Stewart found Sanai Williams for another touchdown, giving Calvary a 20-0 lead.

For Stewart, reaching the milestone on the night her team won the area championship made the occasion especially meaningful. She credited her receivers for helping her reach the mark.

Calvary coach Nick Grassi said the championship reflected the resilience his team has built throughout the season. He has challenged the Cavaliers to consider how they respond when facing adversity, whether after a mistake or when they need to make a play.

“When our backs are against the wall, how do we respond?” Grassi said. “Our focus this season has been purpose, perseverance, and how do you respond to that.”

He pointed to Calvary’s previous game against Jenkins, when the Cavaliers overcame a 13-0 deficit and four interceptions before winning in overtime.

“Same thing today. We missed a couple things, but how do you respond?” Grassi said.

Calvary’s defense answered that challenge late in the championship game. With Woodville-Tompkins driving in the fourth quarter, the Cavaliers intercepted a pass in the end zone with eight minutes remaining to preserve the shutout.

Grassi praised Stewart’s passing and the receivers who have helped Calvary’s offense develop.

“I’m a very lucky coach to have a QB who can sling the ball,” he said. “Not only can she sling the ball, but she’s also got six or seven receivers that can go get it. They catch the ball and run hard.”

He also said the team’s pitch game has given the offense another way to extend plays as the players continue to develop.

Calvary has two games remaining before the postseason, with Richmond Hill on Tuesday and Southeast Bulloch on Wednesday. Grassi said both will offer the Cavaliers a chance to build confidence heading into the playoffs.

“Those will be really good confidence builders going in, and hopefully we can continue to win,” he said.
