Two Savannah area sophomores are serving notice in the sport of volleyball in the area. Savannah Christian’s Carinne Cason and Savannah Arts’ Ellie Ayala delivered big performances to earn Coach’s Corner Co-Volleyball Players of the Week honors.

Savannah Christian setter Carinne Cason was a difference-maker in the GHSA Class A-Region 3 tournament, recording 69 assists and 14 aces in two matches. In the championship match against St. Vincent’s, she delivered 10 aces, 37 assists, and 18 digs, while also marking a major milestone with her 850th career assist.

Savannah Christian head volleyball coach Julie Jones said, “With the unexpected changes in our lineup, I was confident in Carinne’s ability to step up and take on the new responsibilities on the court. She did an outstanding job running offense, served aggressively while hitting her spots, and finished the match with the game high 18 digs in the championship match.”

Savannah Arts Academy sophomore Ellie Ayala also turned heads with her all-around play. The 2025 3AA Region Player of the Year totaled 13 aces, 35 kills, and 35 assists in matches against Glynn Academy, Richmond Hill, Camden County, Cook, and Pierce. Her consistency this season has been a key to the Panthers’ success, with totals of 81 aces, 233 kills, and 267 assists so far.

Savannah Arts Academy head coach Lauren Lord said, “I believe this player should be player of the week because she continues to prove that she is a force from week to week, even though she’s only a sophomore. In total, this season she has had 81 aces, 233 kills, and 267 assists. Not only is she making waves this year, I expect she will continue to do so for the next two years.”

Both players show maturity beyond their age, leading their teams with energy, skill, and focus as the postseason is here.
