Final Stretch in Baseball: Who’s Punching Their Ticket and Who’s Left on Deck in the 912

SAVANNAH, GA - As the high school baseball regular season enters the final stretch for teams in the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), programs in the Savannah area are running out of outs, and every inning now feels like a make-or-break moment. The Prep Sports Report staff checked in with area coaches, athletic directors, and a baseball director, including those from schools in other associations. Here’s where things stand as the postseason picture starts to take shape.

In GHSA 6A-Region 1, Richmond Hill saw its seeding shift late. Head coach Hill Thomas noted that Valdosta’s two wins over Lowndes last week dropped the Wildcats from a No. 3 to a No. 4 seed. Richmond Hill will now open the playoffs on the road at Buford.

For some programs, the season has already come to a close. In GHSA Class 5A-Region 1, South Effingham head coach Jesse Osborne confirmed the Mustangs were eliminated in the region playoffs, while Effingham County’s season ended with a first-round loss to Glynn Academy, according to the Effingham Herald.

At the top of GHSA Class 4A Region 1, Benedictine controls its own path, sweeping and clinching the region title, but the job isn’t finished yet. Head coach Jason Pascual said the Cadets sit atop the region standings and now turn their attention to a key final series against New Hampstead this week. With the region title within reach, Benedictine will need to handle business one more time before turning attention to the postseason.

In GHSA Class 3A-Region 3, Calvary Day has already finished the job. Head coach Jakob Gross said the Cavaliers clinched the region championship with last Thursday’s win over Islands, locking up the top spot as they prepare for a postseason run.

Meanwhile, in GHSA Class A-D1, Savannah Christian enters the final week with everything still in front of them. Head coach Matthew Oglesby said the Raiders can secure the region title outright with a sweep of Swainsboro. Savannah Christian currently holds the tiebreaker over both Vidalia and Toombs County.

And in the Georgia Independent Athletic Association (GIAA) ranks, St. Andrew’s is still battling for position as the postseason picture takes shape. GIAA teams still have three weeks remaining before the playoffs. Head coach Vaughn said the Lions are working within a power-ranking system through MaxPreps, where the top 12 teams qualify for the playoffs, meaning every result this final week still matters as they look to claim their spot. The Lions sit at number 10 with

The Habersham School, which plays in the Georgia Association of Private & Parochial Schools (GAPPS), won't know until today where they stand, per the Patriots' athletic director, Susan Barry.

Also in the Tri-State independent school ranks, Savannah Athletic Association Jaguars baseball director Jason Rockwell said his team sits third in the region and will host the Region Tournament at Scott Stell Park on April 24-25. The winner advances to face the Mountain Division champion in a best-of-three series for the title.

And as the final week begins, it’s important to remember that while classifications 6A through 4A follow traditional standings, the lower classifications, including 3A, 2A, A-D1, A-D2, and private schools, rely on power rankings and postseason formulas. That means there are still paths to the playoffs for teams on the bubble.

One week left. A lot still to be decided. See where your team stands below.
