Savannah Arts Academy sophomore Maya Lilja-Vazuqez carded scores of 73-80 at Okefenokee Country Club in Blackshear, Ga., May 18-19 in the Georgia High School Association Class AA girls state golf championship to earn a berth in a playoff for individual medalist.
After Columbus High School freshman Allie Nguyen carded a birdie on the first playoff hole, Lilja-Vazquez settled for a runner up finish. After one round, LIlja-Vazquez and Nguyen were tied for the lead and battled throughout the second round, including Lilja-Vazquez closing with four straight pars to earn a spot in the playoff.
It was the second consecutive year Lilja-Vazquez finished as the runner up for the Class AA individual low medalist.
Savannah Country Day Boys finish runner up in Private Boys state tournament

The Savannah Country Day boys golf team led by a stroke after the first round of the GHSA Private Boys state tournament played May 18-19 at the Nob North Golf Course in Cohutta, Ga., and ended in second place behind the Christian Heritage School from Dalton, Ga.
The Hornets placed two players in the top 10 of the individual standings, with sophomore Kohki Maeda finishing fifth after scores of 70-74 to end at 2-over par and junior Charles Morris was seventh after carding scores of 72-74. Other scores for SCDS included senior Caden Hartley with scores of 75-76 and senior Noah Goldstein with scores of 78-76.
Richmond Hill Girls finish runner up at Class AAAAAA state tournament

The Richmond Hill High School's girls golf team earned a runner up finish at the GHSA Class AAAAAA state golf tournament played May 18-19 at Bentwater Golf Club in Acworth, Ga., finishing only four strokes behind state champion Lambert High School.
Junior Alexa Mohler led the Wildcats, posting a third place individual finish after rounds of 74-72 left her at 2-over par for the tournament. Other counting scores for Richmond Hill came from freshman Ella Kate Woods with scores of 80-83 to finish 12th and senior Amanda Puchales with scores of 87-87 to finish 17th.
Benedictine battles back to finish thirda at Class AAAA golf championship

Benedictine Military School was the host of the GHSA Class AAAA state golf championship played May 18-19 at the Savannah Golf Club, and the Cadets followed a disappointing first round with an outstanding second round to finish third in the state for the second straight year.
BC was in fifth place after the first round, but junior Bear Dollander posted a score of 1-under 70 in the second round and junior Jack Weeks carded a score of 1-over 73 on the second day of the tournament to lead the Cadets' charge up the leaderboard. Dollander, who won the 2025 Class AAAA state championship, finished fourth overall and Weeks finished T8.
Other counting scores for Benedictine came from sophomore Alex Dao with scores of 77-77, senior Chad Chadwell with a score of 75 in the second round and freshman Carson Hayes with a score of 79 in the first round.
