That's right, and college softball players also enter the transfer portal: Alex Brown, was an upcoming Division 1 junior shortstop at the University of North Carolina and a stand-out softball player from South Effingham High School, entered the NCAA transfer portal after the 2023 season in May. Brown announced on July 11, 2023, that she had signed with the Clemson Tigers softball team.

Alex entered the portal after the Tarheel Hall of Fame Head Coach Donna Papa announced her retirement in May.  Kevin Brown, the assistant district athletic for Savannah Chatham County Pubic Schools System, her father, said that Alex joined the portal because she wanted to open herself up to new opportunities.

She had two outstanding seasons at the Tarheels, where she was a second-team All-ACC selection and an NFCA Southeast All-Region Third Team in 2023. She led the Tar Heels with a .399 batting average and a .438 on-base percentage, and she also had six doubles, two triples, and five home runs.

Brown was a versatile player for the Tar Heels, where she played multiple positions, including second base, third base, shortstop, and outfield as a freshman. As a sophomore, she started all 54 games, and 53 of those games were at shortstop.

Clemson head coach John Rittman stated on Clemsontigers.com he is excited to add Brown to his team. "We are extremely excited to be adding Alex to our team," Rittman said. "She is a talented player who will make an immediate impact for us. She is a great hitter, a good baserunner, and she can play multiple positions. We are looking forward to seeing what she can do for us in the future."
