The Calvary Day baseball team is ready for its showdown in the Georgia High School Association Class 3A Baseball Championship series in Rome, Georgia, starting tonight. With a record of 27-6, the Cavaliers are ready to take on the reigning Class 3A state champions, Harlem High School, located in Harlem, Georgia, just west of Augusta, Georgia. The Bulldogs are 32-1 and are the defending GHSA Class 3A Champions.

This series will kick off at Advent Health Stadium with a doubleheader starting today, Friday, May 17th, at 5 p.m. Game #3 will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game #1. In case of a tie, the "IF" Game, Game #3, is set for Saturday, May 18th, at noon.

Calvary Day is set on winning its first state title since 2007. The Cavaliers were ranked third in the final Class 3A poll by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution ahead of the playoffs. On the other hand, Harlem has been dominating this season, holding onto the #1 spot for most of the year. The match-up will see Harlem playing as the home team for Game 1 and Calvary as the home team for Game 2. In the If Game, the home team will be determined by a coin toss if necessary.

Head coach Phillip Lee, who graduated from Calvary in 2003, will go with the pitching rotation that he has had all year. Junior Ryan Wallace will be a Game #1 starter with a record of 10-1 and an ERA of 1.74. Sophomore Quinn Johnson has been the Cavaliers Game #2 starter in the playoffs, with a 6-2 record and a 1.60 ERA. Senior Will Hampton, who has committed to Vanderbilt and has an ERA of 0.64, has been the closer to closing out games or being used as a starter when needed.

Hampton is leading the offense with a .450 batting average, closely followed by brothers sophomore Max Arnold with a .406 batting average and senior Georgia Southern football commit Caden Arnold with a .405 average.

The Cavs headed to Rome yesterday, Thursday, for a practice session at The Darlington School. Calvary secured its spot in the finals by winning an intense three-game series against Mary Persons, while Harlem swept Oconee County in two games. Both teams are ready for a showdown to compete for the GHSA Class 3A baseball championship title starting today at 5 p.m.

As Always Go, Cavaliers!
