THOMASTON, Ga - Georgia high school football games will soon have instant replay, but not for all of them.

On Monday April 17, 2023, the Georgia High School Association gave the go-ahead for state title games to use instant replay. Instant replay won't be allowed in regular-season games anymore.

The GHSA made it after the title game between Sandy Creek High School and Cedar Grove ended in a controversial way. Sandy Creek scored a touchdown late in the game in December, but replays on TV and social media showed that the player was still a long way from the goal line. Fans asked for a replay, but the referees couldn't use instant video.

You make the call by clicking on this link GPB Sports from the the Sandy Creek High School and Cedar Grove High School championship game back in December 2022. Well touchdown or no touchdown?

The way replay will work is as follows: For each championship game, the GHSA will choose an official to work in the replay booth. All the video that can be reviewed will come from the broadcast or other video sources at the location, like streaming cameras.

A play can be looked at again in one of two ways: either the official in charge of video review asks for it, or the head coach questions a call. Only the video booth can ask for a play review in the last two minutes of each half.

A replay judge can change a decision if there is clear video proof that the decision was wrong. If not, the decision will stand as it was made.
