The Region Tournaments tipped off last night, showcasing exciting games and remarkable individual performances throughout Georgia and South Carolina. Benedictine triumphed over New Hampstead in a thrilling overtime match, while South Effingham narrowly defeated Glynn Academy. On the girls' side, South Effingham bested Statesboro, and Richmond Hill achieved a significant victory against Valdosta.
One of those thrillers was in overtime, with Benedictine defeating New Hampstead 81-78 in overtime. Senior Caleb Jones was the man for the Cadets, scoring a game-high 49 points! BC will play in the region tournament championship game against Warner Robins on Wednesday night. Also, South Effingham boys edged Glynn Academy, 63-61, and the Lady Mustangs beat Statesboro 36-31, and the #5 seeded Islands High School Sharks knocked off #4 seeded Groves 72-63
Tonight, more games will be taken to the hardwood, with crucial Region 1 matchups in GHSA Class 6A, 5A, and 3A. Richmond Hill and Colquitt County tip off in Valdosta, while South Effingham and Evans battle for a spot in the next round. Over in Class A, Savannah Christian faces Savannah Country Day, and St. Vincent's takes on Woodville-Tompkins in girls' action.
