Island's Cave, Woodville Tompkins's Pelote score membership in 1,000 Point Clubs

Two local high school basketball players from Savannah made history for their respective schools in recent months.

On the girls' side, Woodville-Tompkins senior Brianna Pelote notched her 1,000th career point in the Wolverines 44-22 non-region win over Bethune-Bowman on January 6, 2024. Pelote becomes the fifth Lady Wolverine basketball player to join the 1000th club. 

Pelote, this season, leads the Lady Wolverines in points per game, field goal percentage, three-point percentage, rebounds, steals, and blocked shots. During her junior year, the 6-foot-2 center had impressive stats, averaging 10.2 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.6 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game. She was named the Defensive Player of the Year in Region 3-A Division I and received All-Greater Savannah first-team honors. 

Brianna was recognized as a Sandysspiels.com All-Coastal Georgia Girls Preseason All-Area team member to kick off the season. Additionally, she was selected by the Savannah Morning News as one of the girl's basketball players to watch for the 2023-24 season.

In boys' basketball, Islands High School senior Jordan Cave became the third player to score 1,000 points in school history on December 12, 2023, against HV Jenkins. He joins his brother Justin Cave (Class of 2017) and Derrick Edwards as 1,000-point scorers. 

Cave is currently leading the Sharks averaging 15 points per game this season. He  has been recognized as one of the top players to watch by the Savannah Morning News this season. Jordan is among the top-scoring guards in Savannah and was a GHSA first-team All-Region 3-4A selection last season; Savanah morning news All-Greater Savannah 2nd team with an average of 14.9 points per game for the Sharks.
