Islands High School Sharks Chomp 3-4A Area Title

It’s been a long time coming, but after winning last week in regular season to Windsor Forest, the Sharks were ready and excited to play in the 4A Area Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, October 17th.  Their fins were up and teeth out to chomp the competition. Teamwork and dedication were on the Sharks side to win the Region.

The Sharks took on the New Hampstead Phoenix in the first round of Region play.  They held the Phoenix to 31 points between all three sets.  Avery Burke was on fire with 9 kills, and Aslin Lanigan joined in with 9 aces to advance the Sharks to the Championship game.

It was the Sharks versus the West Laurens Raiders in the Region Title game.  The court was still until the Sharks dominated it with their extraordinary offense and incredible defense. IHS held the Raiders to 25 points in all three sets.  Veronica Sierzant with 15 aces and Aislin Lanigan with 15 assists helped the Sharks dominate the court.

Islands defeated New Hampstead 25-6, 25-16, 25-9

Leading for the Sharks were

Aislinn Lanigan with 16 Assists and 9 Aces

Avery Burke with 9 Kills

Anna Collins with 5 Aces and 2 kills

Veronica Sierzant with 5 kills

Islands defeated Weat Laurens to clinch the Area 3 AAAA title 25-7, 25-5, 25-13

Leading for the Sharks were

Aislinn Lanigan with 17 Assists and 5 Aces

Veronica Sierzant with 4 Kills and 15 Aces

Avery Burke with 6 kills and 6 Aces

Hannah Summerall with 4 kills

Islands Overall Record 21-3 Area 6-2

The Sharks will host the first round of State Playoffs in the Shark Tank, Wednesday 21 against Carver High School.
