The 2025 Savannah Area high school football season kicks off with matchups igniting fans' curiosity, including rivalry games and regional contests across various classes. Week 1 and Week 2 games throughout the Savannah area and South Georgia territory will set the direction for the season for championship contenders and athletes who want to establish themselves quickly.

Bradwell Institute and Liberty County High School begin Week 1 on August 15, 2025, in their annual school rivalry matchup. Then add a championship playoff-level contest as Benedictine visits Colquitt County to face the established Class 7A powerhouse. Jenkins faces a challenge by traveling to Lowndes to battle this perennial state powerhouse.

The next day, a Saturday matchup on August 16, a Georgia High School Association Class 3A-3 region game kicks off earlier than usual, as Calvary Day takes on Beach High at Paulson Stadium, home of the Georgia Southern Eagles, located on the campus of Georgia Southern University.

The Coastal Empire intensifies its competition during Week 2. The new Wildcat Stadium welcomes its first game when Glynn Academy meets Richmond Hill in a vital non-region contest. The Rebels at Effingham County will demonstrate their growth against a strong GHSA Class 5A Houston County High School football team out of Warner Robbins, GA.

The biggest non-region game in the state takes place on August 22, when Buford travels to Benedictine to create an early-state championship atmosphere. Savannah Christian will meet New Hampstead in a game that will determine which team stands among the top Savannah area programs. The week ends with Beach High playing Savannah High in a classic Savannah city rivalry matchup.

These first games help coaches determine their team's readiness while they start identifying which teams will be serious contenders in their region. The early weeks of competition will expose which teams demonstrate championship potential and which need additional development.
