Savannah Country Day School celebrated two more student-athletes taking the next step in their athletic and football careers, as Hayes Beaver and Najee Young officially signed to continue playing at the collegiate level.

Hayes Beaver — Brown University

Hayes Beaver signed Feb. 4 to continue his football career at Brown University.

A three-time All-Region linebacker and three-time Savannah Morning News All-Area selection, Beaver was the unquestioned leader of the Hornets’ defense throughout his career. This past season, he was named the team’s Defensive MVP after anchoring one of the most consistent units in the area.

Beaver’s senior year production tells the story. He recorded 112 tackles, including 13 tackles for loss and five sacks. He added three interceptions, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and returned one defensive touchdown. Over four years, he finished with more than 300 total tackles.

Beyond the numbers, Beaver’s impact showed in the way he led. In recognition of his leadership and character, his coaches selected him to honor the late Stu Sligh Jr. by wearing the No. 5 jersey during his senior season — a distinction reserved for a player who represents the program on and off the field.

At Brown, Beaver will take his toughness, instincts, and football IQ to the Ivy League level, continuing a career built on preparation and accountability.

Najee Young — Muskingum University

An All-Region selection and Savannah Morning News honoree as a junior, Young made his mark as a versatile two-way player for the Hornets. Whether lining up on offense or defense, he brought energy and playmaking ability every Friday night.

Although his senior season was cut short by an ACL injury, Young remained a steady presence and leader for the team. In what would become the final game of his Hornet career, he rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns before suffering the knee injury that ended his season.

His teammates recognized his leadership by electing him team captain — a role that reflected the respect he earned through his work ethic and commitment to the program.

At Muskingum, Young will look to build on a career defined by resilience and versatility, carrying the same determination that made him a cornerstone of the Hornets’ roster.

Savannah Country Day continues its tradition of sending student-athletes to the collegiate level, and both Beaver and Young represent the standard of excellence the Hornets strive to uphold — on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.
