It’s official Girl’s Flag Football will kick off as an official Georgia High School Association (GHSA) sport this school year. There are 139 high schools taking part. They split the schools into two divisions with 16 area regions. They break the divisions down by classifications. Division 1 has schools from classifications, 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, and 5A. Division 2 schools are from classifications 6A and 7A.
Schools can hold their first practice on October 5th. They can play their first
official game on October 12th and the regular season will end on November 21st. It will be a ten game season. The state tournament will see the top 4 teams from each area moving onto the playoffs. Which will be 32 schools. The girl's GHSA Flag Football Championship Games will be played on Thursday, December 10, at Georgia State University Stadium.
When the season gets started, 8 southeast Georgia area schools will make make up the Area 2 region in Division 1. The are five Savannah area schools who are taking part. They are Calvary Day School, Effingham County High School, New Hampstead High School, Richmond Hill High School, and Windsor Forest High School. Also, in the Area 2 region will be Claxton High School, Dodge County High School, and Portal to make it an eight-area team region. Effingham and Richmond Hill are in this area for geographic placement out of their repsective classification. It’s time for the girls to take the field.
