BENEDICTINE
2020 RECORD: 9-3
HEAD COACH: Danny Britt
POINTS SCORED: 467
POINTS AGAINST: 321
KEY PLAYERS: Holden Geriner (QB -- Sr.); Justin Thomas (RB/DB -- Sr.); Za’Quan Bryan (WR/DB -- Jr.); Holden Sapp (LB/FB -- Sr.); Ben Hollerbach (DB -- Sr.)
FROM THE COACH: “The players and supporters of Benedictine have come to expect excellence. We feel like we have a great opportunity to continue to provide that excellence on the field each and every Friday night.” -- Danny Britt
The Cadets return seven offensive starters and seven on defense from last year’s team which advanced to the Class 4A state semifinals. In head coach Danny Britt’s 14th season at BC, he’ll have a team with state championship expectations come December.
Holden Geriner (Auburn commit) returns for his senior season at quarterback after starting every game of his sophomore and junior campaigns. The rest of BC’s high-powered offense will be headlined by running back Justin Thomas (Sr.) and wide receiver Za’Quan Bryan (Jr.). Bryan is the top returning receiver in Class 4A after hauling in 45 catches for 710 yards and five scores as a sophomore last season.
Thomas, a University of Georgia baseball commitment, was an all-purpose star last year. He totaled 25 touchdowns and over 1,900 all-purpose yards (1,344 from scrimmage) last season and should be a leading candidate for Class 4A’s Player of the Year.
Geriner led Class 4A with 27 touchdowns last season in just 12 games. He threw double-digit interceptions in 2019 before cutting that number to just three in 2020.
Holden Sapp (102 tackles, 15 ½ for loss, 11 ½ sacks in 2020) anchors the defense from the linebacker spot and Thomas (73 tackles, five interceptions) will lead the way at defensive back in the Benedictine 3-4 scheme. Also returning on the BC defense are sure-tacklers at every level, including: Keiran Glover (82), Evan Scarbrough (77) and Thomas’ running-mate in the secondary, Ben Hollerbach (63).

2020 RECORD: 7-2
HEAD COACH: DeShawn Printup
POINTS SCORED: 261
POINTS AGAINST: 109
KEY PLAYERS: Langston Lewis (WR -- Sr.); Mitchell Singletary (LB/TE -- Sr.); Tavare Brewton (WR/LB -- Sr.); Cooper Bachman (LB/K -- Sr.)
FROM THE COACH: “We look to improve on what we started last season. This season our number one goal is to compete for the region championship and host a second-round state playoff game.” -- DeShawn Printup
The Sharks had themselves a historic 2020 season despite the COVID-19 pandemic and the difficulties of dealing with breaking in a first-year head coach. Islands advanced to the GHSA Class 4A second-round after earning the program’s first ever state playoff win in the opening round.
Now, in DeShawn Printup’s second season at the helm, IHS will lean on several first team All-Region selections from 2020 returning to the squad this fall.
Wide receiver Langston Lewis is committed to Central Michigan and should be one of the top receivers in the city this season. The linebacker group is solid with seniors Mitchell Singletary and Tavare Brewton playing on the outside and fellow senior Cooper Bachman leading the way in the middle linebacker spot.

JENKINS
2020 RECORD: 4-4
HEAD COACH: Tony Welch
POINTS SCORED: 198
POINTS AGAINST: 147
KEY PLAYERS: Ashton Jackson (OG/DT -- Sr.); Tavion Gadson (DE/TE -- Sr.); D’Angelo Sheppard (DT/OL -- Sr.); Larry Johnson (OT/DL -- Sr.); Jashard Richey (CB/RB -- Sr.); Eugene ‘Tre’ Brown (WR/ATH -- Sr.); Keyshon Leggett (CB/RB -- Jr.)
FROM THE COACH: “It’s a new beginning for my team after my being in Claxton for the past four seasons. The goal is still the same here at Jenkins ... And that is to win Region 3-4A and advance the state playoffs as region champions. Our defense will set the tone and determine how successful our season will be. Our offense is learning a new system for the first time in 15 years. (Jenkins has had) three coaches in three seasons. My job is to build this program into being a family.” -- Tony Welch
The Warriors look to rebound from a tough 2020 campaign and the changes are aplenty for Jenkins, a Final 4 team in Class 4A in 2019.
Tony Welch takes over at head coach as the Savannah State University graduate comes to Jenkins from Claxton (2017 - 2020) this year. Welch, who will implement his Wing-T offense at HVJ, will have a talented offensive line to run behind but Jenkins will have to find replacements for the now-graduated Patrick Blake (QB) and D’Mazzio Harris (RB).
Ashton Jackson is slated for left guard while Larry Johnson mans the left tackle spot. D’Angelo Sheppard is one of the more underrated defensive linemen in the city and he is poised for a big senior season.
Jenkins will use a 3-5-3 scheme on defense. The Warriors return eight starters from last year’s defense and six on offense, including four O-Linemen with prior experience. HVJ students are now attending classes in a brand-new SCCPSS building and the football team should have itself a sporty new on-campus stadium by Fall 2022.

NEW HAMPSTEAD
2020 RECORD: 6-2
HEAD COACH: Kyle Hockman
POINTS SCORED: 301
POINTS AGAINST: 103
KEY PLAYERS: Pauly Seely (QB -- Jr.); Kaden Sonnabend (TE -- Sr.); Toriano Bias (WR -- Sr.); Jamell Coast Jr. (RB -- Sr.); Rodney Wade (MLB -- Sr.)
FROM THE COACH: “We are young, but hard working.” -- Kyle Hockman
New Hampstead has legitimate hopes for a Region 3-4A championship in 2021. The Phoenix will use a pistol scheme on offense and a nickel/hybrid scheme on the defensive side. Head coach Kyle Hockman has four starters from 2020 returning on defense and five on offense.
Headlining the offensive returners are junior quarterback Pauly Seely (scholarship offers from Middle Tennessee State, Western Kentucky, Bowling Green and Elon) and senior tight end Kaden Sonnabend (Savannah State University). Also back on the offense are senior running back Jamell Coast Jr. and senior wide receiver Toriano Bias.
Defensively, Rodney Wade returns to his familiar middle linebacker position after the All-Region selection logged 102 tackles in just nine games last season as a junior.
