Due to reclassification, crosstown rivals Calvary Day School and Savannah Christian Preparatory School will not face each other for the first time since 2002 in regular season play. In 45 games played since 1979, Savannah Christian leads the series 26-19. Before a two-year hiatus in 2000 and 2001, the teams played 20 years straight from 1979 to 1999.

Will they meet in 2024? Wait, don't count 2024 out yet because the two rivals might meet in the new playoff format to keep the rivalry going!

The Georgia High School Association introduced a new playoff format for  2024. All private schools in Classes 1A-3A will be split from the public schools into their playoff brackets. Calvary Day is in Class 3A and SCPS is in Class A DI. This season, 26 football-playing private schools from Classes 1A-3A will compete for a single state championship in the state playoffs. A points-based power ranking system will seed the 26 private schools in this playoff bracket.

The public schools in Classes A DI, 2A, and 3A will compete for individual state championships in their respective classifications.  Classes 4A, 5A, and 6A will play in the traditional format, and private and public schools will play each other for the championship. Benedictine Military School chose to play up in Class 4A. Class A DII will use the exact format because there are just public schools in this classification.

The Georgia High School Association state football playoff schedule for 2024 will be played as follows:

First round: Nov. 8-9
Second round: Nov. 15
Third round: Nov. 22
Semifinals: Dec. 6
Finals: Dec. 16-18

The 2024 GHSA state championship high school football games will be held at the  Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
