The South Effingham Mustangs (40-10) advanced in the playoffs Monday with two decisive wins over Milton (17-12) in the GHSA Class 5A state softball playoffs' second round. The Mustangs won 12–2 in Game 1 and 10–1 in Game 2 to complete the sweep and move on to the Elite Eight in Columbus, Georgia, on the weekend of October 29-November 1.
Despite dropping Game 1 by a score of 10–6, cross-county rival Effingham County showed plenty of fight to stay alive in its series against Seckinger. In Game 2, the Rebels rallied behind Gabie Hill’s three-run homer in the top of the second inning. That blast gave Effingham a 4–0 lead, one they never relinquished, as they finished with a 6–3 win to force a deciding Game 3 today at noon.
After sweeping North Gwinnett (28–7) in the GHSA Class 6A state softball playoffs by scores of 6–2 and 4–3, the Richmond Hill Wildcats (21-9) advanced to Columbus also.
In Class A Division II, Bryan County (19–18) travels to Irwin County (24–2) for games at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Meanwhile, in the Class 3A-1A Private Sweet Sixteen, Savannah Christian (29–10) visits Hebron Christian (26–9), with first pitch set for tomorrow at 4:00 and 6:00 p.m.
