Week 1 didn't tell us everything. But it sure gave us plenty to talk about.
Now comes Week 2. Teams are trying to get to 2-0, others need an answer, some familiar faces meet again, and we've got one Savannah matchup we've never seen before.
THURSDAY, AUG. 27
Appling County 7, New Hampstead 0
This one barely got started. Appling County scored on its opening drive to take a 7-0 lead, before lightning stopped play, and with New Hampstead unable to finish the game this weekend, Appling County gets the win.
Islands 11, Savannah High 0, Suspended
They got one half in before lightning stopped this one, with Islands leading Savannah High 11-0. The two teams are scheduled to finish the game Saturday at 3 p.m.
FRIDAY, AUG. 28
Liberty County (0-1) at Richmond Hill (1-0) at 7 p.m.
Richmond Hill won by one last week and Liberty County lost by three. These two were not far apart on the scoreboard, and this one could still be hanging around late Friday night.
Wayne County (1-0) at Bradwell Institute (1-0) at 7:30 p.m.
Two teams, two opening wins, and somebody is leaving Hinesville 2-0. Bradwell put 47 on the board in John Adams' debut, so let's see what the Tigers have for an encore.
Tift County (1-0) at Effingham County (0-1) at 7 p.m.
Effingham came within a blocked PAT of possibly forcing overtime against Richmond Hill. Now the Rebels get a Tift County team that did not allow a point in its opener.
Johnson (1-0) at South Effingham (1-0) at 7:30 p.m.
How about this one? Johnson handled Savannah High, while South Effingham won it with a field goal in the final minute, and somebody is walking away Friday night 2-0.
Hebron Christian (1-0) at Benedictine (0-1) at 7 p.m.
Talk about a schedule. Benedictine goes from Toombs County straight into the back-to-back state champions, so Friday night we find out a little more about how the Cadets answer a tough Week 1.
Groves (0-1) at Brunswick (0-0) at 7:30 p.m.
Groves showed it can put points on the board against Islands, and now the Rebels head down I-95. Brunswick is playing its opener, and Groves would love nothing more than to spoil it.
Jenkins (0-1) at Calvary Day (1-0) at 7:30 p.m.
Oh, these two know each other. Jenkins and Calvary were region opponents the last two seasons, and Calvary is coming off 42 unanswered points while Jenkins is looking to answer that loss at Lowndes.
Windsor Forest (1-0) at Tattnall County (0-0) at 7:30 p.m.
Windsor Forest gave Willie Martin Jr. his first win as head coach in an overtime thriller against Beach. Nice start, but now the Knights have to take it on the road.
Bryan County (0-1) at Portal (0-1) at 7:30 p.m.
Pretty simple here. Somebody gets win No. 1, and after tough opening nights for both teams, Friday is an opportunity to start over.
Bethesda Academy (2-0) at Savannah Christian (1-0) at 7:30 p.m.
Now this one has some juice. Bethesda gets its first regular-season game against a GHSA opponent, and it happens to be against another Savannah school, Savannah Christian.
Pinewood Prep (1-0) at Savannah Country Day (0-2) at 7 p.m.
Country Day is back home and looking for that first win. Forget the 0-2 for a night because the Hornets need to find a way to get No. 1.
St. Andrew's (1-0) at First Baptist at 7:30 p.m.
Forty-eight points scored and zero allowed is a good way to start a season. Now St. Andrew's hits the road, and we get to see what the Lions look like away from home.
THREE GAMES TO WATCH
Bethesda Academy at Savannah Christian
We've never seen this one before. Bethesda gets its first regular-season game against a GHSA opponent in school history, and doing so against another Savannah program makes Friday night at Pooler Stadium even more interesting.
Jenkins at Calvary Day
These two know plenty about each other after being region opponents the last two seasons and sharing the region titlein back to back seasons. Calvary is 1-0, Jenkins needs a win, and there should still be a little something there when these two line up again.
Hebron Christian at Benedictine
No easy second week for Benedictine. The Cadets are coming off the loss to Toombs County, and now the back-to-back state champions come walking into Memorial Stadium.
THE PSR TAKE
Week 1 gave us something to talk about. Week 2 is where we start finding out who learned something from it and who has everybody talking Saturday morning.
