Savannah Country Day’s Olivia Aliotta Reaches 1,000 Career Points

Savannah Country Day senior Olivia Aliotta reached a big career milestone on Sept. 17.

The four-year varsity starter recorded her 1,000th career point in a match at Glynn Academy.

For Aliotta, a senior outside hitter and team captain, reaching 1,000 points was one of her goals coming into the season. It also represents a lot of volleyball and a lot of behind-the-scenes work.

Savannah Country Day head volleyball coach Kyla King said Aliotta put in plenty of work to reach that goal.

“Reaching 1,000 career points means so much to Olivia and to our program. When we met in the preseason to discuss her goals for the year, reaching 1,000 points was at the front of Olivia’s mind. We approached that goal from multiple angles. As an athlete, Olivia focused on every part of her game—from serving and attacking to blocking and everything in between. She handled the pressure and weight of pursuing this milestone extremely well.

“For our program, Olivia reaching 1,000 points demonstrates to our younger athletes that goals can be achieved, but they require time, dedication, and a willingness to put in the work. Olivia didn’t reach this milestone simply by showing up to the gym. She invested countless hours in club volleyball, private training, strength and conditioning, and the many other areas that have helped her grow as an athlete.

“What makes this milestone especially meaningful is that it represents much more than a number on a scoreboard; her achievement gives our younger athletes a tangible example of what is possible when you set a goal, commit to it, and consistently put in the work to achieve it.”

Aliotta has 200 kills, 32 aces, 15 blocks, and 139 digs this season.

But her game is more than numbers.

Teammate Layne Helmly described Aliotta as “dependable, resilient, and competitive.”

King said Aliotta brings that same work ethic and competitive approach into the gym every day.

“Olivia’s teammate Layne Helmly described her with words like dependable, resilient, and competitive, and I think those words capture so much of who she is as an athlete. When Olivia walks into the gym, we know exactly what we are going to get: someone who is going to be there, give her best, and compete every single time.

“As her coach, I have had the privilege of seeing that competitiveness. It doesn’t matter what drill we are doing or what the focus of practice is—Olivia is going to give 100% effort. If the goal is to put the ball down, she is going to compete as if it matters. And sometimes, when that competitive spirit gets the best of her and she puts the ball down on a teammate, she immediately turns around to apologize.

“That is Olivia. She competes fiercely, but she cares deeply.”

Aliotta's resume has grown over time. She earned Area 3 Second Team honors as a freshman and Area 3 First Team honors as a sophomore and junior. She was also selected as a GIAA All-Star this season.

Now she can add 1,000 career points to the list.

Aliotta has made college visits and is still looking for the right fit to continue playing after high school.

For now, she still has volleyball to play at Savannah Country Day.

And after four years as a varsity starter, the senior captain has another milestone to remember.

1,000 career points.
