Richmond Hill High School made big catches at the 2025 Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Bass Fishing State Championship, held at Lake Lanier this past weekend. All four competing teams turned in strong performances, and one duo earned a ticket to nationals.

The  Griffin Spence and Issac Buhles team led the Wildcats’ effort, reeling in a 5-fish limit weighing 18 lbs, 1 oz to finish 7th overall out of 108 teams. Their top-10 finish secured them a coveted spot in the National High School Fishing Championship in Oklahoma later this summer.

They weren’t the only Richmond Hill anglers to post impressive numbers. Three other teams each caught their full 5-fish limit, with Owen Osden and Aiden Pluff placing 25th (14 lbs, 9 oz), Ryan Fitzgerald and Alexander Erb finishing 50th (12 lbs, 6 oz), and Carson Goode and Jackson Hopper landing 64th (11 lbs even).

“We’re incredibly proud of all four teams,” said a Richmond Hill coach. “Every one of them caught a full bag—it shows the consistency and talent these young anglers have developed.”

With Spence and Buhles heading to nationals, Richmond Hill continues to establish itself as one of the best high school bass fishing destinations in Georgia and beyond.
