A veteran senior core spikes Richmond Hill volleyball as the Wildcats paw at a championship title in the playoffs.

Wildcats, a consistent region champion and playoff contender, captured their fourth straight Region 1-6A title and are set to host Dacula in the GHSA Class 6A State Playoffs. Richmond Hill High School volleyball continues to build on its tradition of success in Georgia Class 6A.

Under first-year head coach Danielle Ennis, the Wildcats haven’t skipped a beat — posting a 38-2 record and 10-0 region mark to claim their fourth consecutive Region 1-6A title.

Now, Richmond Hill shifts focus to hosting Dacula tonight in the GHSA Class 6A State Playoffs.

RICHMOND HILL

For Ennis, a 1993 Richmond Hill graduate and former multi-sport athlete, the Wildcats’ dominance comes from experience and unity.

“I think the experience — the fact that these girls have been playing together for many years — is a huge piece of it,” Ennis said. “With 10 seniors on the team, I think it’s the consistency of staying disciplined. So when our offense is on, you know it, and defense together, like, we’re unstoppable. But the great thing is, if our offense is struggling a little bit, our defense picks it up and vice versa. They really don’t seem to give up... they continue to work side out and turn the momentum back on our side.”

Taking over for former head coach Kaitlin Fulton, who remains on staff as an assistant, Ennis said the transition to head coach was made easier by a seasoned and passionate roster.

“Yeah, I think their knowledge of the game — I mean, several of these girls are just really intuitive, really strong with game management — and I think that has helped a lot with me transitioning into this new role,” she said. “It kind of made my job a little easier... they’re passionate. They’re just so passionate about the sport, and it’s contagious. As a coach, you fall in love with the sport as well.”

SENIOR CORE

The Wildcats’ depth and drive begin with their 10-member senior class:
Grace Duffie, Kylee Gilbert, Bryanna Da Silva, Talia Johnson, Naomi Jaiteh, Lily Ritzema, Samantha Beichler, Angelina Anderson, Kamryn Ostbloom, and Jade Timothy.

“They love the sport so much,” Ennis said. “They’re so eager. I wish I could have them all out there at all times, but unfortunately, you can’t play six at a time.”

Talia Johnson, the last seasons Region 1-6A Player of the Year, leads the team and region with 305 kills (3.4 per set) and will play next year at Coastal Carolina University.

Bryanna Da Silva has 511 assists and 81 aces, while Kylee Gilbert leads defense with 319 digs and 452 serve receives (95.1%).

Naomi Jaiteh and Kailah King provide strong blocking and hitting to balance the lineup.

FOCUS FOR THE PLAYOFFS

As Richmond Hill prepares for the postseason, Ennis said the focus must remain sharp.

“Yeah, I told them that they have to stay focused, determined, disciplined — and that’s what got us here so far — their desire to do what they love, to execute well, and that’s what we’ve gotta continue to do,” Ennis said. “We can’t let up now, especially now that we’re moving into playoffs. You know the teams are gonna be stronger, so we can’t afford to relax any.”

She shared one motivational message that resonated with her team.

“I told them a quote once by Nick Saban. He said that more people die coming down Mount Everest than going up, and it’s because they relaxed after they hit their peak,” Ennis said. “That’s what I try to tell the girls — yeah, we hit that goal of winning region for the fourth time, but we can’t relax. We have to keep driving on... because we’ve got the talent, no doubt.”
