Savannah Country Day has hired Kenny Conroy as its new Director of Athletics, the school announced on Monday, March 7 through an emailed letter written by SCDS Head of School Kef Wilson. Current Country Day Director of Athletics Jim Collis is set to retire at the end of the current school year and Conroy will begin working in his new role starting on June 1, 2022.
“In what was a very strong pool of candidates, Kenny stood out as someone who would bring experience, expertise and wisdom to our athletic program,” wrote Wilson in the Monday email addressed generally to the ‘Savannah Country Day Community.’
“Those who met Kenny appreciated his warm demeanor, sense of humor and direct, down-to-earth communication style. Everyone saw in him someone who would be an ideal leader for our athletic program.”
A native of New Providence, New Jersey, Conroy has 18 years of experience previously as an Athletic Director at Bible Baptist, Hilton Head Prep and Hilton Head Christian Academy. He comes to Country Day after a largely successful run overseeing the HHCA athletics program for the past ten years.
He was the girls basketball coach at Hilton Head Christian from 2011-2022 and the Eagles experienced incredible success on the hardwood under his guidance. Conroy posted a record of 363-83 (.814) during his time as head coach. He was named a region Coach of the Year nine times. HHCA won the SCISA Class 2A state championship this season in Conroy’s finale – it was the program’s fourth straight state title.
“I’m excited to become part of the Savannah Country Day family,” Conroy said. “I look forward to the opportunity to work with the coaches, student-athletes, faculty, and staff. I hope to make significant contributions to the continued success and growth of the athletic department.”
