Schools are out for the summer, but the summer sports camps for children are in full swing with more scheduled through June and July.
The calendar is well-stocked at several local schools, including Savannah Christian, which already offered its football and girls basketball camps on June 2-6.
“Our athletic camps at Savannah Christian are designed to provide an opportunity for our younger Raiders to be coached by current players and coaches,” Savannah Christian Director of Athletics Greg Phillips wrote in an email to Prep Sports Report. “They are taught the skills and drills by the athletes and coaches they admire.”
Likewise at Benedictine Military School, where the All-Sports Camp ran June 2-5 and taught the fundamentals of baseball, basketball, football, lacrosse, soccer and wrestling to boys and girls, rising third- through eighth-graders.
“The objective for the camps is for the participants to receive instruction from BC coaches and students, develop and improve skills, learn drills and habits they can take with them moving forward, all while taking place in an environment that encourages sportsmanship and respect for others,” Benedictine Director of Athletics Jack Holland wrote in an email to Prep Sports Report.
Bethesda Academy hosted the Blazers All-American Basketball Camp on Tuesday night and its Blazers All-American Football Camp on Thursday night. Calvary Day School is the host site for Nike Basketball Camps for boys, which got underway with the first session on June 2-6.
Savannah Country Day conducted its coed soccer camp this week.
St. Andrew’s School on Wilmington Island already offered a baseball camp for first- through eighth-graders and a football camp for third- through eighth-graders on June 2-6.
But it’s not too late for so many more camps compiled from a survey of local schools. Those interested should directly contact schools for updated camp information and can use the website links listed with each school to click on pages dedicated to summer programs for more details on each camp’s requirements, activities, and fees.
